My grandpa's getting up there I think he's 81 But just because he's getting old Doesn't mean he isn't fun He likes to give me his advice And what’s even more He can't seem to remember that He's told me that before At times he is old fashioned With the big band and the strings But he really loves jazz music With the doo-wops and the swings He’s got some unique stories Of his jobs and of the force I don’t even care if he has Told me that before He shows me his old pictures Ancestors long ago I don't know who is who is who As they stand there in a row He crushes me in Cribbage In Euchre mops the floor I think he might remember That he's beaten me before (Over, and over and over) (solo / conversation) We both like competition But we root for different teams We both can come together, though, when The Wolverines get creamed (Go Bucks!) He likes to give me his advice And what's even more He can't seem to remember that He's told me that before (x3) I hope you have a grandpa And I hope he's just like mine Who thinks that you are special And loves you all the time (x2) Yea, we love you all the time! (more conversation)

I'm just tired as hell Tired of bein' broke I've got no place to live and my car's a joke So I bust my ass Just to get ahead Now my woman's leaving, so she said They're not gonna bring me down Just can't drag me down to the ground Not gonna bring me down today So I still go to work And I work real hard But you can't put no money into the jar And you still wonder Just what is the use When they just keep taking advantage of you They're not gonna bring me down Just can't drag me down to the ground Not gonna bring me down today But maybe someday I'll catch my big break Make some real money and eat me some steak But until that time comes I'll just keep on tryin' While hearing the big bosses lying and lying They're not gonna bring me down Just can't drag me down to the ground Not gonna bring me down today

Life doesn’t always treat us fair Although we wish it so Just when we think we’re doing well Here comes another blow These things are hard to handle Our strong points are too few But I always get my courage up When my thinking turns to you You have a way of changing things And somehow ease the trial The disappointment’s not so bad When I see your pretty smile What would I do without you Well Heaven only knows You make everything seem better From my head down to my toes

For years my life was lonely with no one to care for me I wandered aimless through the days turned into weeks Then on the greatest day of all, I saw you standing there Your beauty made the others vanish in thin air My fear that you would turn away was not to be that day You asked me to sit down, my feet were made of clay You were all I'd dreamed and even so much more It took no time to know that you were who I would adore It was a really crazy thought, to hope for you for life But miracle of miracle, you soon became my wife I'm so glad you've chosen me, a long shot to be certain But here we are inseparable until the final curtain

They saw each other cross the room Their interest then began to bloom He asked her nicely for a dance She returned a small shy glance She thanked him but responded no Love to but just couldn't go No dancing tonight with him Because of her prosthetic limb He gazed at her with look so sly She quickly noticed his glass eye He said he liked her hair so fine I'm sorry, but it isn't mine Have anything that's really you Parts not fake seem pretty few There's lots that are so really me Like a bunion and arthritic knee Come on up, you're heaven sent I'll clean my teeth with Polident So shocked his toupee left his head And on his wheelchair off he sped

Well, hello there, how are you Don’t tell me, need a clue I used to be a whiz with names But right now, it’s just a shame With your name I really stumble Make a try but only bumble Hem and haw to buy some time A grasp of names no longer mine What's your name?!?!!!! When I see you down the hall I’m stuck with saying, “How y’all” My brain I fear has flown the nest My intellect is on bedrest I look at you with a blank stare My card file vanished in thin air I ask your patience, yes I do When I forlornly call you Sue What's your name?!?!!!!

His steps were slow As he made his way Up the steps that Led to home The years of working In the mill had Robbed him Of his youth Once he thought So long ago I joked around And played These things had No interest now His easy chair Now ruled The girl once fair Who was his thrill Now goes to bed Alone Oh what a price We have to pay To keep The home fires lit

Gotta get out of here Go outside, get some air Been far too long In my recliner chair I’m out of shape I so rarely move Gotta get myself In a better groove Maybe sign up at A fitness gym I could get myself Real nice and trim It seems to me That it’s not today There’s no real harm In a slight delay
9.
Some day I won’t have a job No drive to work, no traffic mob Some day I won’t have a job Hooray and halleluia! I’ll walk right in and then I’ll quit Tell them I’m through, this is it Get my stuff and make my exit Hooray and halleluia If they talk real nice to make me stay Please stick around for one more day Just shut your mouth and get my pay Hooray and hallelluia No more stress and no more tension Just set me up for that that nice pension Give that task your full attention Hooray and halleluia Some people think that I’ll be bored That I won’t like what is in store They’re wrong, retirement I’ll adore Hooray and halleluia

He came with great hope in his heart A chance to build a brand new start He’d left it all to make this trip A choppy voyage on an ancient ship Everything that he had learned Had to once again be earned Language, home, and school degrees Were windblown by the ocean breeze He left everything he had To come to this promised land The land we call America Was it worth the mighty loss To leave a job where he was boss To now be in a job so low With so very much he did not know He could not quit or lose his soul Despite the challenge meet the goal He had left a world in disarray To say God Bless the USA He left everything he had To come to this promised land The land we call America The land we call America

His only wish A simple plea To just be left alone No interest in Their phony smile Invites to their home But hope is frail Dreams are dashed Things don’t go our way He is the butt Of their cruel jokes He hates them more each day Some teachers too Join in to add Contempt and disregard What have I done To have them make My life so sad and hard

Ol death is hangin round my door I will kiss your lips no more Our great journey it will end Never was a better friend This is how I want it though I go first, I want it so Life without you is not life Being alone without my wife Our memories are oh so good We loved each other as we should No harsh word was ever said A happy peaceful life we led Now we are getting old Our lovely story has been told If I have to say goodbye We’ll meet again up in the sky (Repeat first verse)

I like songs that spin a yarn Bout hogs and horses, our old barn A good song’s got to have a tale I’m leavin’ town and setting sail My dear old gal I’ll leave behind And live in Pacific Standard Time I’ll be a bum right on the beach And for weeks I’ll be out of reach Oh sing about the mountain fog And how you lost your favorite dog Of love gone sour and is no more And how your job went out the door Come on and sing a country song I’ll do my very best to hum along You know my heart will be with you Cause truth be known, I’m country too
14.
You drive around in a fancy car Your house is huge with a giant yard Credit cards taken to the max Hard to keep up, that’s a fact You’re always buying more fine stuff Never saying “That’s enough” You work and work and then work more To keep the collector from your door When will you finally see the light And stop so you can sleep real tight The worry that’s your constant foe Would vanish if you wished it so You know that stuff is not that real Won’t make you into a big deal The only real values in the end Are family and a few good friends Comments

We live in a divided world Full of hatred and of strife We don’t make an effort to Understand what we don’t like Why is it so that we can see The color of man’s skin But cast a blind and calloused eye To the value that’s within It takes so little effort To learn and understand Is there hope that we can mend This wounded world and land When courtesy and friendship Again become the rule The world will no longer be Governed by hateful fools
